NZD/JPY is the smaller sibling of AUD/JPY and behaves almost identically, tracking global risk appetite with a slightly thinner book and marginally wider spread.
It is a common carry expression when the Reserve Bank of New Zealand is holding rates above the Bank of Japan. Positioning can become crowded, which makes unwinds abrupt.
