The brokers below hold a registration in Canada according to our research records. They are grouped by what has actually been confirmed: a registration checked against the public register of CIRO on a stated day comes first, then registrations recorded but not yet checked, then registrations carrying a register status this site does not interpret, then any the register shows as no longer current.
Who is on this page: Every broker record holding a registration in Canada (CA), whether or not it has been checked against the register yet.
Ordered by how much of the broker's own published terms we have checked, then alphabetically — this is not a quality ranking.
0 of the 198 broker records we hold qualify for this page.
Nothing to list here yet
No broker in our records holds a registration in Canada yet. That is a statement about our records, not about the market: we publish this page empty rather than filling it with brokers licensed somewhere else.
CIRO, formed from the merger of IIROC and the MFDA, oversees investment dealers, alongside the provincial securities commissions. A broker must be a CIRO member to solicit Canadian retail clients.
Accounts at CIRO member firms are covered by the Canadian Investor Protection Fund, up to CAD 1 million per account category. That covers insolvency, not trading losses.
Registration is provincial as well as federal, so a broker may have to register separately in each province it serves. Many firms decide the compliance cost is not worth it and exclude Canada entirely.
Two dated sources sit behind this page: our research records of each broker's registrations, and the pages the broker publishes itself. How much of that was confirmed on a regulator's own public register is counted in the paragraph below, from the registrations this page actually prints — the label beside each one says which it is. Provincial coverage and CIPF membership are not fields our broker records carry, so this page does not state them — confirm both with the broker before depositing, because national availability is the exception in Canada rather than the rule.
Our research hub holds 198 broker records for this site. No regulatory registration is listed on this page. Where a date is old, treat the figure as old — brokers change pricing and licences without telling us.
Canada trades access for protection: provincial registration keeps the field small, and the CIPF backstop is among the strongest anywhere. Cost is not a figure this page measures, so compare the spreads and commissions each broker publishes before you choose.
